Petitioners. I then proceeded to the Colonel's as ordered yesterday.
A soldier conducted me to a person in a very large building called Ngu-sze-ting, and the Senate House, the latter took me to an Official gentleman. I suppose a Magistrate, who read the note sent by the Colonel and told a person to conduct me to the two Barracoons mentioned in the note.
The Magistrate addressing me in English, told me "I could distinctly understand them. As the Magistrate and I were the only English speaking persons present, I suggested that perhaps the best way would be to let them look at all the Barracoons in the event of their not finding them first in the two named.
The Magistrate agreed with my suggestion and told me I could inspect the coolies in all the Barracoons, we then left with the person.
